Precision Atomics was formed after identifying a demand for a sputter coater which was easy to use for students in a University laboratory environment. Prototyped in the University of Cambridge Engineering Department, the system was designed so that students coming to a laboratory environment for the first time could use the system without prior knowledge of vacuum systems and without the danger of damaging the system by exposing a running turbo pump to atmospheric pressure. The simple and intuitive recipe system allows for unattended operation; open and short circuit detection produces error messages in the event of plasma not striking while comprehensive report generation means that any unusual sample properties can be more easily traced.
